My title sounds like a good title for a blues song of some sort...
Actually, I haaven't had much time lately. I've been working graveyard from 10pm to 6am and just don't have the energy to stay up in the morning and blog.

First off, our little church here in Prrescott has topped the Seder dinner debacle. They are hiring and OUTSIDE CONSULTANT to help develope a VISION STATEMENT for the church. Apparently, we lowly members of the church aren't cpable of knowing what direction our church should be taking. Our co-pastors are going along with this nonsense brought to us by our Business Manager who, it turns out, is NOT a professing Christian even in the Methodist sense of it.

Add to this the fact that our July - August sermon series is basically the Christianity According to Walt Disney with sermons on Bambi, Beauty and the Beast, etc. There is no spiritual sustenance to be had in this church right now. We would leave but my lady works there and we need the money.

The pastors spend their time, when they are in the church building which is almost never, worrying and talking about money, KumByah, and the starving orphans in Africa. Whatever happened to God, Jesus and "charity begins at home"?

Just totally bummed up here in the mountains.

Ah yes, the Seder Dinner. Well, the dinner went off as scheduled WITH THE PORK entree! One of our senior pastors waffled and shuffled and said that it was our METHODIST Seder dinner so we could serve whatever we wanted to serve. Of course, he is totally wrong and many, many of our 800 members told him so! I expect that next year, we will have lamb or beef, no pork, or we won't have a Seder dinner at all. To my knowledge, we had no Jews in attendance. I know of two who heard about the pork and openly stated that they would not be in attendance even though their son belongs to our church. Several of the 18 retired pastors who belong to our church also made their feelings known to the effect that they are squarely against such an insult.

We all need to remember that any church congregation is one large and mostly dysfunctional family. Some are more so than others. I served as an Elder in a Presbyterian Church (USA) back in Michigan for six years. I quit when some members of the Board of Elders (the Session) refused to extend our outreach into the local community to bring more members into the church by changing the name to more accurately reflect this sort of outreach. Several months later, they did change it. I guess I made my point. Dysfunctional? I guess!

Seder Dinner, as I understand it, is a part of the Jewish celebration of the Passover which is told of in the Old Testament book of Exodus.

My Methodist Church here in Prescott Arizona has decided to celebrate the Passover with a Seder Dinner to be held this evening at the church. The church has invited the other Methodist churches in the area, the Congregational Church (UCC) and the other churches in the community to participate. Did I mention that the local synagogue has also been invited to be a part of the Celebration?

Now comes then funny(?) stuff. It seems that One of the women on the kitchen crew doesn't like lamb. So what does she do? She orders PORK to be prepared and served at our Seder dinner! What a doofus!

I can understand that some Christians don't understand a lot about the Jewish faith. But I thought that, at a minimum, most Christians understand about pork and Jews. It seems that there is at least one person in Prescott Arizona who doesn't understand that PORK is an absolute NO-NO for Jews and at a Seder dinner at that! I don't know what the upshot will be but I think that our whole congregation will be the laughing stock of the whole community for this one!

I am not easily angered by most things but this is a total affront to all of us, an embarrassment bordering on sacrilege.

Now, the last excuse is that " the meat was already ordered and is being prepared, so we will just go ahead with it." Stupid, loony, however you would describe it. Another excuse is that they aare also serving chicken at the dinner so those of us who don't want pork can have chicken. This is not the point. We probably wouldn't get too many Orthodox Jews at the dinner anyway but I do expect a few local Reform Jews might show up. This is awful. Terrible. Thanks to all of you who messaged me. I was sick with that sinus crud, flu, and all sorts of garbage for a couple of weeks. Then my spouse cme down with it all as I was on the mend. I haven't been back to the blog for a while. I will endeavor to do better.

I have a new job coming up soon and I could be working any shift in the 24 hour day. Hence my time online will be irratic. I will hang in there though.
